Reaching Out to Veterans - Northwestern is Named Yellow Ribbon School
August 07, 2013
Northwestern Health Sciences University has been approved as a Yellow Ribbon School by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. It’s an important distinction that puts us on the map for veterans pursuing higher education. “Basically, this program fosters a partnership between schools and the VA, to bridge the gap between higher education costs and VA education benefits,” says James McCloden, Northwestern admissions representative.
McCloden, a former Psychological Operations Paratrooper who served seven years on active duty, has a personal interest in the program. “Many members of the military community and their families currently use acupuncture, massage and chiropractic treatment,” says McCloden. “I would like to show them how it can not only be extremely effective in treating a wide range of maladies, but can also be a rewarding and fulfilling career.”
Being listed on the roster of Yellow Ribbon Schools in Minnesota gives Northwestern visibility online and within the college and high school advisor community. “The first step was approval,” notes McCloden. “Next we will plan a strategy to communicate with advisors and to participate in events on military posts.”
“Part of our strategy is to explore diverse areas and fields where we can introduce Northwestern and our programs to new students seeking a degree or second career,” added Kate DiAna, director of admissions for Northwestern.
