AAAOM Student Organization Holds Board Meeting at Northwestern

Posted on Oct. 5, 2009

The student organization of the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM-SO) held their Board meeting at Northwestern Health Sciences University Sept. 18-20, 2009. Ten AAAOM-SO Board members from around the country met at Northwestern to talk about how the organization can be the best resource for students.

“The primary focus of the meeting was planning,” said Jolene Habeck, a 2008 MCAOM graduate and former AAAOM-SO Board President. “We’re looking at how the student organization can help support the progress of the acupuncture and Oriental medicine; what students need; and what new practitioners need.”

Habeck, who was recently named Operations Manager for AAAOM, stepped down as President at the meeting. Kimberly Benjamin, LAc, from Fort Collins, Colo., will serve as AAAOM-SO President until the current term ends April 9, 2010.

According to Habeck, the Board also strategized about bringing chapters together, and creating more outlets for students to be involved.

The AAAOM-SO Board meets in-person twice a year – once at the National Conference held each spring, and once in the fall. Northwestern has hosted the meeting several times. Learn more about AAAOM-SO here.
