Richfield Symphonic Band to Play at Northwestern

Posted on April 10, 2008

Northwestern Health Sciences University will be hosting a fundraising performance by the Richfield Symphonic Band in the auditorium on April 29 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Not only will there be great music, but also wine and cheese before the performance and during intermission, said Jeff Graham, human resources generalist for Northwestern.

The event, which is a collaborative effort between Tom Tjornhom, DC, and the Community of Sharing committee, will provide a nice evening out and an excellent affordable way to support the University, Graham said.

Dr. Tjornhom, who plays with the band, approached Brady Forseth, BA, director of development for Northwestern, about performing. Dr. Tjornhom is a 1952 graduate of Northwestern.

“Our community of sharing has done a great job of coming up with new initiatives to raise money,” Forseth said. “The Richfield Symphonic Band is donating their time and playing at a concert on campus, with all proceeds going to the capital campaign. This is all possible because Dr. Tjornhom plays in the band and talked to the director.”
The Community of Sharing committee is the brainpower behind Northwestern’s “fun-raising” fundraising events, such as the Timberwolves game night and upcoming Twins game night.

The committee includes several Northwestern faculty members and employees.

Brianna Busch, BA, NCTMB, massage therapy administrative assistant and committee member, said the committee is working diligently to fulfill their mission.

“Our mission is to enable our University community to become actively involved in the Capital Campaign through creating and participating in a variety of “fun-raising” events,” Busch said.

Graham said it will be a new way for the community to help the University and enjoy a night out.

“It will be a night of culture and a wonderful way to recognize alumni and give back to Northwestern,” Graham said.
