Northwestern Community Shares A Little Warmth With Blankets for Babies
Posted on Nov. 20, 2009
With scissors in hand, nearly 40 volunteers gathered in the cafeteria at Northwestern Health Sciences University on Nov. 18. 2009. The crowd of mostly students, along with a few staff and faculty, were there to help make “blankets for babies,” a project coordinated by the Student Senate Volunteer and Social Committees.
“We had a nice turnout,” said Miaken Zeigler, chiropractic student and Volunteer Committee chair. “We made about three dozen blankets. It’s nice to see students and others on campus give their time to help those in need.”
The fabric for the blankets was purchased with the proceeds from the Talent Show held Oct. 30, and volunteers were treated to a meal provided by the Social Committee. The blankets will be delivered to the People Serving People organization, which operates a homeless shelter in Minneapolis. They are given to new mothers in need of baby supplies.
