Northwestern Students Are a Diverse Group Who Share A Common Goal

Posted on Sept. 24, 2009

Nearly 200 students started Northwestern Health Sciences University when classes resumed for fall term on Sept. 9, 2009. They come from different places in the world, and have chosen different professions. What they do have in common is a desire for the quality education that Northwestern provides.

“It is always exciting to have a new class start,” says Lynn Heieie, BS, associate director of admissions. “Each student adds to the diversity and uniqueness of our student body; whether the students are in the massage therapy program, the acupuncture program or the chiropractic program.”

Northwestern has 884 students currently enrolled, with 127 new students in the College of Chiropractic; 31 new students starting at the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM); and 31 starting the School of Massage Therapy.

Northwestern’s student body currently represents 32 states; five Canadian provinces; and nine countries. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are the most highly represented of the Canadian provinces with 10 representatives from Saskatchewan and 17 from Manitoba.

Northwestern students range in age from 18 to 59 years old; and are almost evenly split between gender, with 466 women and 418 men.

Many students enroll full-time, but Northwestern also offers a part-time option as well. This fall, four chiropractic students enrolled part-time; as well as nine MCAOM and four massage therapy students.

“When students walk through our doors, no matter who they are or where they are coming from, they all share the desire to become health care practitioners.” says Heieie.
