Employee Spotlight: Vicky Haechrel, NCTMB, Bloomington Natural Care Center

What brought you to Northwestern?
I attended Northwestern as a student in the massage therapy program. I chose to attend Northwestern because of the reputation – I consider Northwestern the best school. I graduated in 2002 and came back to work for Northwestern in 2005.

What did you do before working for Northwestern?
I worked as a corporate trainer for Express Scripts, a pharmaceutical benefit management company. It was a stressful job with a lot of traveling, and I chose to pursue a career in massage therapy as something more fulfilling. After graduation I worked for a massage practice called Keep in Touch Massage in Savage, Minn.

What do you enjoy about your job at Northwestern?
I enjoy teaching – it’s always been my forte.

What do you enjoy about massage therapy?
I love when my patients realize they don’t need to live with pain.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy reading. I also enjoy every kind of movie – I’ll even go to movies by myself. I also enjoy walking and hiking. I try to live by the notion, “practice what you preach,” so I try to live a healthy lifestyle.

Do you enjoy traveling?
I enjoy traveling. Recently I’ve been to California and Hawaii. I’ve been to many other states throughout the United States. I’d like to go to Europe one day.

What is one of your favorite memories at Northwestern?
When I was a student here, my class had a Halloween party. It was a lot of fun. Everybody dressed up including some instructors.

Are you a member on any boards or organizations?
I’ve been a director on the alumni board for massage therapy since 2005.
