Northwestern Health Sciences University Prepares to Shoo the Flu

Posted on Oct. 27, 2009

Northwestern Health Sciences University is taking action against the H1N1 flu by ensuring that students and staff are aware of the illness, and what they can do to prevent it. The University is also working to be more accommodating when illness strikes by encouraging people who are sick to take the appropriate number of days off.

Bottles of hand sanitizer and boxes of tissue are being distributed around campus. Signs are posted in the main hallways and restrooms to remind students and employees to wash their hands and cover their noses and mouths with a tissue when sneezing or coughing. Face masks are also available to those who are showing signs of the flu.

Additionally, Northwestern has assembled a pandemic flu task force designed to develop and coordinate the University’s response to the sickness. Each department developed a business continuity plan that ensures the most important tasks will still be completed if staff members have flu-related absences.

Northwestern is working with The Bloomington Public Health Department to monitor flu conditions. The University is also monitoring resources that provide information on what the University can do to minimize the spread of the flu.
