HealthyU Seminars Designed to Educate Northwestern Employees
Posted on April 18, 2008
The seminars are sponsored by HealthyU, a program dedicated to educating and providing support for the Northwestern community. The next seminar on April 30 in the Cafeteria Conference Room will focus on “Cancer Awareness – Risk Factors and Prevention.” The seminar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.
Chad Hendriksen, DC, HealthyU Coordinator, said the goal is to promote services and opportunities available to Northwestern employees.
“It is my goal and the goal of the University to provide multiple opportunities for employees to positively impact their personal health and well being,” Dr. Hendriksen said. “It is important to understand our health risks and have the resources and knowledge to live a healthier life.”
In addition to monthly seminars, HealthyU will sponsor an array of educational activities and events throughout the year.
“This will include monthly features in ‘Northwestern Today’, health awareness notices, a spring and fall incentive campaign, departmental focus meetings, and one-on-one consulting,” Dr. Hendriksen said.
Deborah Hogenson, Human Resources Director at Northwestern, said the University supports the seminars as a long-term approach for encouraging employees to make healthy choices in their lives.
“As reflected in the University's strategic plan, Northwestern is committed to ‘creating and maintaining a culture of wellness that reflects the institution's mission of health,” Hogenson said. “The role of the seminars is to promote awareness on a variety of wellness-related topics and provide information to employees that will assist them in making the best health care decisions for themselves and their families.”
