A Regular Guy Who Impacts His Community – One Spine at a Time

Posted on Aug. 24, 2009

A Born Chiropractor
For Cody Hoefert, DC, a 2004 graduate of the College of Chiropractic, being a chiropractor was a goal from the time he was young. Dr. Hoefert’s parents used chiropractic care for their family while he was growing up, introducing to him the value and benefit of the treatment at a young age. “My mom always said that I would be a good chiropractor,” says Dr. Hoefert.

After graduating from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D., Dr. Hoefert began his graduate studies as a chiropractic student at Northwestern Health Sciences University. He chose Northwestern because he wanted to be a doctor of chiropractic trained in full diagnosis, and believed that Northwestern had a reputation of being one of the leaders in chiropractic education. “I wanted to go to the top school to receive the best education, and Northwestern was the perfect fit,” he says.

The Perfect Fit
Not only was Northwestern the perfect school for Dr. Hoefert, but Dr. Hoefert seemed to be an ideal student for Northwestern. He became involved in many areas of the school, including serving as Student Senate president and Student Ambassador president. “I believe we all have a responsibility to make the most of our student experience,” says Dr. Hoefert. “Chiropractic is enhanced by students being leaders in education and leaders in the next wave of the profession. It helps the whole field.”

That passion for leadership transcended into Dr. Hoefert’s work after graduating from Northwestern’s College of Chiropractic. He opened his first clinic, Lyon County Chiropractic, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, in 2004, and now owns and manages three other chiropractic offices in Iowa. Part of Dr. Hoefert’s mission is for his clinic to be involved in the community through volunteer organizations, charity, church and civic leadership.

“The practice of chiropractic in a small rural community has been the most rewarding professional experience one could have,” says Dr. Hoefert. “The diversity of injuries and conditions that you get to treat is second to none. Someone is always falling off a tractor, breaking something, or getting knocked down by a cow or sow.”

A Promise to the Community
Dr. Hoefert is absolutely hitting home with his patients. As a thank you, patients often drop off home-grown vegetables or fruits with thank-you notes for the help they’ve received from Dr. Hoefert. “My patients are humble, thankful, family-oriented, regular people,” he says. “They don’t expect miracles, just for me to do my best. That is a good motto for what we do as chiropractors – we promise to do our best to get the patient the most appropriate care or combination of care necessary.”

The medical professionals in Dr. Hoefert’s community also work with him to benefit the patients. “Patients here receive the best care as we all work well together to ensure the best patient outcomes,” he says. “I’m just a regular guy who gets to impact people’s lives through the greatest profession in the world – chiropractic!”
