Student Ambassadors Offer a Tasty Reprieve from Midterms
Posted on Oct. 21, 2009
Ice cream seemed to be the perfect on-the-go treat for Northwestern Health Sciences University students with midterms in mind. On Oct. 20, The Student Ambassador Club held an ice cream social over the lunch hour.
Textbook-laden students formed long lines in anticipation of their favorite mint chocolate chip, or chocolate and vanilla combination. The Student Ambassadors graciously serve up this tasty treat during every set of midterm exams. Jessica Svennes, a chiropractic student and co-president of the Student Ambassador Club, emphasized how the organization aims to make life easier on the students of Northwestern. “We are all students and understand the student perspective,” said Svennes.
The organization consists of 65 Northwestern students from all different programs. When they are not serving up frozen delights, they are writing letters to alumni, sending postcards to recently accepted students, giving tours on Saturday mornings, and conducting new student orientation. The main goal of the group is to provide new or prospective students with information from an experienced student’s point of view.
“New students have already talked to admissions, the dean, and professors about the school. Now, they want to ask a returning student questions about everyday life at Northwestern,” said Svennes. “The Student Ambassadors give them answers and opinions from a student’s perspective about the Northwestern experience.”
The Student Ambassador Club meets every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Check the sign-up board between the cafeteria and bookstore for details on location.
