Posted on Sept. 2, 2009
Northwestern Health Sciences University will bring together nearly a dozen leaders from health care and higher education, and several Minnesota legislators, to speak at “Integrative Health: A Local Conversation About Health Care Reform.” The event is co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing; the University of Minnesota School of Nursing; and LifeScience Alley; and will be held at Northwestern’s Bloomington campus on Sept. 22, 2009.
“The time is right for this conversation,” says Mark Zeigler, DC, President of Northwestern and one of the speakers. “We’re hoping to add an element to discussions on health care reform that deals with the philosophy of integrative care: that it is patient-centered, evidence-informed, and wellness-driven. That the best outcomes for patients will be achieved when practitioners across all disciplines collaborate to provide the very best care in an efficient and cost-effective manner.”
Guest speakers include Minnesota legislators Senator John Marty, (DFL) District 54; Representative Paul Thissen, (DFL) District 63A; Representative Jim Abeler, (R) District 48B; along with Frank Cerra, MD, Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School, University of Minnesota; Dannette Coleman, Vice President of Public Policy and Government Relations for Medica; David Moen, MD, from Fairview Health System; Patrick Geraghty, President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota; Carolyn Pare, CEO of Buyer’s Health Care Action Group; Mark Zeigler, DC, President of Northwestern Health Sciences University; Larry Kuusisto, PhD, Vice President of Education for LifeScience Alley/Executive Director of Alley Institute; Mary Jo Kreitzer, RN, PhD, Director of the Center for Spirituality and Healing, and Professor, University of Minnesota School of Nursing; and Charles Sawyer, DC, Senior Vice President, Northwestern Health Sciences University.
