Naturals Douse Flames 14-4 in Summer League Hockey Action
Posted on June 16, 2009
Andrew Erlandson, T3 chiropractic, scored a season-high four goals on June 14 to lead Northwestern Health Sciences University’s club hockey team, the Naturals, to a 14-4 win over the Flames in Summer Showcase Hockey League action at Parade Ice Arena in Minneapolis.
The win was the second in a row for the Naturals and boosted their record in the Summer League to 2-3 and their overall season record to 6-9-2.
Erlandson, a first-line wing, added two assists to finish the night with six points, a record this season for a Naturals player. The Naturals’ first line recorded 13 points against the Flames, after notching 10 points last week. Fellow first line wing Jake Bohnen, T3 chiropractic, had a goal and two assists, and center Mike Modich, T9 chiropractic, tallied a goal and three assists.
“As I said after our last game, weekly practices have made a huge difference in passing, defense, and ice awareness,” said John Healy, club advisor and the University’s director of communications. “We owned the front of their net, and got a lot of goals on rebounds. And everyone on the ice played good, swarming defense. It was easily our best game of the year.”
Healy noted that the Naturals defense was anchored by goalie Nick Ongaro, T6 chiropractic.
Two Northwestern players chipped in with two goals each – Matt Miller, T5 chiropractic, who also added two assists from his wing position, and Greg Petersen, Undergraduate Studies, who also added an assist to his two goals. Peterson now has five goals in two games since joining the Naturals for their June 7 game against the Naked Snowmen, which Northwestern won 10-8 to break a five-game losing streak. Erlandson also has five goals in the last two games.
Also scoring goals were Cassidy Quinton, T5 chiropractic; Matthew Freudenthal, T6 chiropractic; Giles Stifter, T8 chiropractic; and Jordan Dyke, T2 chiropractic, who also chipped in two assists for a three-point night. Quinton also recorded an assist.
