The Value of Demographic Factors in Opening a Successful Practice: Part X, Expandability
When your capacity nears your peak patient load, you need to expand. It is wise to anticipate your need ahead rather than live with an overload. By then, you begin to suffer the effects of the patient’s excessive waiting or, worse yet, being hurried through and not treated properly. Do you have enough space on the property to accommodate a larger building with additional parking? Is your property zoned commercial or will a variance have to be obtained? If you rent, you can expand to an adjacent space or to another floor in the same building. Now that you are known with a patient base, don’t be afraid to rent or buy a suitable space in a visible location away from your original office – your patients will follow you there if it is not more than 10 to 15 minutes away. Momentum is your friend if only you keep it moving in your favor.
