Classroom Renovations and Building Maintenance Nearly Complete

Posted on Sept. 9, 2009

The physical plant staff at Northwestern Health Sciences University made good use of the lull in activity over summer break to make headway on several renovation and maintenance projects. The finishing touches are being made to the new spaces just in time for the start of the fall term.

A new classroom was built in the space vacated by the admissions office earlier this year. It will be furnished and ready for the first class scheduled for Sept. 10. This new classroom seats 135 students and features a state-of-the-art podium complete with a document camera, fully functional video-conference capability, desks wired for electricity and ergonomic seating.

The new classroom will be known as Room L2, with subsequent rooms being re-numbered accordingly (i.e., the former L2 will become L3, L3 will become L4, and so on.) Renovations were also made to Room 202, which will house a new digitally-based radiology lab.

Other projects included installing a new ceiling in the corridor on the east end of the building, near Door 4 and Room L1. The ceiling was replaced with a new grid and tiles, and additional lighting was added to the east stairwell. This was also the final area of the University to receive updated fire sprinklers. “Retrofitting the building for sprinklers was a huge project,” said Kevin Wolpern, director of the physical plant. “We’re happy to report that the entire campus is now 100 percent outfitted with an up-to-date sprinkler system.”
