Northwestern Will Help Neighboring Washburn Elementary With Back-To-School Night

Posted on Aug. 27, 2009

Volunteers from Northwestern Health Sciences University will once again help serve a picnic supper to the staff and families of neighboring Washburn Elementary School for their back-to-school night. The annual picnic will take place Sept. 3, 2009, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on the lawn near the Washburn playground.

Seven to 10 volunteers are needed to help with this annual event. Typically, more than 200 Washburn families attend the picnic, enjoying burgers, hotdogs, potato salad, chips and watermelon. The back-to-school event gives students and parents a chance to check out their new classrooms and meet teachers. "Northwestern is pleased to partner with Washburn Elementary in various ways throughout the year. The back-to-school picnic is a nice welcome back for families and school staff, and the volunteers from Northwestern really enjoy it too," said Ryan Chapman, communications project coordinator and community relations coordinator.

If you are interested in helping out, please contact Ryan Chapman at rchapman@nwhealth.edu or ext. 169.
