It’s Not Too Late to Sign on for a Healthier Lifestyle

Posted on June 19, 2009

An introductory meeting for a Weight Watchers at Work program will be held Monday, June 22 from noon – 1 p.m. in Room L5. If you haven’t already signed up, you can still attend the meeting. The program is open to staff, faculty and students.

This is the first initiative of the newly-formed Employee Mind and Body Advisory Board. Kathy Allen, BS, associate dean of academic services for MCAOM, and an advisory board member is facilitating the Weight Watchers initiative.

The Weight Watchers sessions will begin June 29, 2009 and continue for nine weeks. “Having the program on-campus is a nice convenience,” notes Allen. Meetings and weigh-ins will be done at Northwestern. The cost for the nine-week series is $99 for students and $89 for staff and faculty. The registration fee is waived for everyone, and faculty and staff will receive a $10 stipend from the University.

Six years ago, an on-campus Weight Watchers group of 20 people lost a total of 329 pounds. “Having a support group is key,” says Allen. She’s planning to join the group. “I’m very excited about Weight Watchers coming back to campus. I’m looking forward to getting back on track with eating more healthfully and striving for a healthier weight.”

“Whether you have only a few pounds to lose, or a bigger goal, you owe it to yourself to be the healthiest you can be,” says Jeff Graham, BS, human resources generalist, who heads up the Employee Mind and Body Advisory Board.

Seventeen people have signed up so far. Participants are expected to make arrangements for payment at the introductory meeting. Options include payment by cash, check or charge. Check payments may be made in two installments, and payroll deduction is also available.

For more information or to RSVP to attend the introductory meeting, contact Kathy Allen, at ext. 435.
