Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Data Collection Project

Phase I: Establishing Methods for Collection of Patient Self-Report Data in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinics

Funding: Internally funded by Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies (WHCCS)
Description:

The purpose of this project is to develop a reliable and systematic method for collecting patient self-report data for individuals seeking care from acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners at Northwestern Health Sciences University.
A project team consisting of research faculty, acupuncture/TCM practitioners and clinic staff was formed to assess and develop data collection methods and processes. Focus was placed on four major areas: survey forms, follow-up processes, integration of data collection into clinic flow, and commitment of resources to the project.

Status: A patient self-report form has been developed and data collection protocols have been defined. These have been implemented in Phase II of this project (described below). A manuscript describing the processes of Phase I is in progress.
