Currently Teaching (2014-2015)
I graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic in 1996 with my bachelor of science in anatomy and doctor of chiropractic degrees. In 1997, I accepted an adjunct position teaching several courses at a small massage therapy school and learned quickly that I loved the energy of educational environment. When offered, I jumped at the chance to add administrative duties to my teaching responsibilities. In 2002, I came to Northwestern Health Sciences University as the dean of the School of Massage Therapy. In 2011, I was named the dean of the newly formed College of Undergraduate Health Sciences, which includes the School of Massage Therapy.
I am very excited to be in the role of dean of the newest college at Northwestern. Guiding the expansion of our undergraduate programming through this college has been very fulfilling. I am eager to see the positive ways in which our growing undergraduate student population and programs and will influence the culture of the University.
As a member of a Massage Therapy Foundation Best Practices Committee, I am working toward the development of best practices guidelines for the profession. I serve as a board member for both the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC) and the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM). I am also a commissioner for the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). I have been involved in working toward state regulation of massage therapists for several years.
In 2014, I completed my PhD in Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development at the University of Minnesota. My dissertation is focused on the perceptions of medical students toward complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and their plans to incorporate elements of CAM into their future medical practices.
I am thrilled to be a part of the Northwestern community and enjoy helping students achieve their goals.
