Currently Teaching (2013-2014)
I have been involved in massage therapy education since 1997, shortly after I graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic. I took an adjunct position teaching several courses at a small massage therapy school and learned quickly that I loved the massage therapy school environment. When offered, I jumped at the chance to add administrative duties to my teaching responsibilities. In 2002, I came to Northwestern as the dean of the School of Massage Therapy.
I am very excited to be in the role of dean of the College of Undergraduate Health Sciences. I look forward to the expansion of our undergraduate programming through this college and the impact that a growing undergraduate student population will have on the University campus.
As a member of a Massage Therapy Foundation Best Practices Committee, I am working toward the development of best practices guidelines for the profession. I also serve as a commissioner for the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). I have been involved in working toward state regulation of massage therapists for several years.
I am currently pursuing my PhD in Organizational Leadership, Policy and Development at the University of Minnesota. My dissertation is focused on the integration of complementary and alternative medicine course work into medical school curricula.
I am thrilled to be a part of the Northwestern community and enjoy helping students achieve their goal of becoming a Northwestern massage therapist.
