Program Overview - Summer Science Academy
Summer Science Academy promises the most unique and amazing 5 days of hands-on, experiential learning and fun – at no cost! Students selected for this rewarding program will be energized, motivated, gain self-confidence and be inspired to learn.
Students learn all kinds of cool things about the health sciences, ranging from using a microscope to reading X-rays, analyzing blood and making vitamins in the lab.
Summer Science Academy is:
- For 50 students entering 9th grade who are selected to participate
- A fun-filled 5 days of interactive science activities and hands-on learning
- A 4-year program – students can continue through 12th grade
- Where students learn from experienced teachers and are mentored by Northwestern students
- Free! The program, bus transportation and meals (breakfast and lunch) are provided at NO COST
Students have the opportunity to:
- Learn about human anatomy and physiology - how our bodies pump blood, breathe air, move muscles and digest food
- Explore physics, chemistry, genetics, nutrition, first aid and CPR
- Experience stimulating and fun science experiments
- Find out about new careers and how to prepare for college
- Participate in fitness activities, games and sports
But there's more than science - our students also:
- Make new friendships and create a lifetime of memories
- Discover new interests and future goals
- Build self-confidence and self-awareness
- Spend a week as a student on a university campus
- Meet local celebrities and guest speakers who motivate and inspire with their personal stories
