Magazine Recommendations

The Journal of Chinese Medicine has a four-part series on “How to Learn Chinese Herbs” by Lu Yubin that is highly recommended reading. The articles give great tips on how to remember herbs by such things as their shape and color. The first article is in the JOCM number 65 from February 2001, the second article is in number 68 from February 2002, the third article is in number 71 from February 2003, and the fourth article is in number 73 from October 2003. The library carries this magazine, and the older issues of the magazine are located in the shelf behind the current issue.

Yongping Jiang has also published several interesting articles in the Journal of Chinese Medicine. "The Use of Gui Zhi in Classical Formulas" can be found in the February 2003 issue and "The Substitution of Dang Shen for Ren Shen" can be found in the October 2002 issue.

Yongping Jiang's articles can also be found at Acupuncture Today. Click here for an interesting article on Vinegar, The "Bitter" Herb. http://www.acupuncturetoday.com/archives2004/jul/07jiang.html

Recognition and Prevention of Herb-Drug Interaction by John Chen, Ph.D., Pharm. D., OMD, L.Ac. is a must-read article. John Chen reminds us that it is "unwise to abandon treatment simply for the fear of possible interactions."

The HerbalGram magazine is now available in our library. HerbalGram is the Journal of the American Botanical Council.
