Fundraising

Fundraising is an important part of our organization. Throughout the year our members work diligently to raise enough money to go to Washington D.C. for the National Chiropractic Legislative Congress in March. As a group we ask each member going to D.C. to work 5 games and donate their time to other fundraisers throughout the year. In Washington we donate to three different funds, the Legal Action Fund, PAC and Research. This money comes out of what is left over after paying for everyone’s trip. This year has been remarkable in our group’s efforts to raise money and we will be donating an all time high of $10,000. How did we do it?

We have a great opportunity in the fact that we have three professional teams right here in the Twin Cities. This year we were fortunate to be able to work at all three places, the Metrodome, the Excel Center, and the Target Center. We work concessions serving hotdogs, pizza, ice cream and refreshments. Starting in the summer with the Twins and working all through the winter with the Timberwolves and Wild we have many opportunities for everyone to work their 5 games.

During the summer we have a Dunk Tank at Summer Jam. Professors donate their time as “dunkee’s” and we allow student’s the chance to dunk their “Favorite” professor. In the fall we put on a Halloween Bake Sale where our members make their best dessert and then work an hour shift throughout one full day. Happenings books are also sold throughout the fall. The books include coupons for thousands of different places in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. We tried something new this year and added T-Shirts to our fundraising list. We started selling them before Christmas and are making them a continuous project. The winter brings in our largest event, Homecoming. Here we have a silent auction with items that have been donated from various companies and places. Dr.’s are allowed to bid on the items all three days with the winner being announced Saturday of Homecoming. This year we also included Valet Parking at Homecoming. Along with Student Senate we were able to park cars two of the three days and hope to make it an annual event. There is also a Valentine’s Day Bake Sale.

As you see we are super busy throughout the year and really appreciate all of the help we get from the faculty, staff and students here at NWHSU. Washington D.C. is a great pay off for all the hard work that is put in and it’s a wonderful way to support our growing profession. If you are interested in going to Washington D.C. in 2004, donating to any of the funds or would just like to help us out with some of your time please drop us an e-mail.
