T10 Assignment
NWCC Intern’s Clinic Handbook
This course of study allows final term students the opportunity to work in a clinical setting that helps meet their learning and career objectives prior to graduation. Students who have completed all quantitative requirements for graduation may work in a private practice under the supervision of a qualified Preceptor. The extern functions as a closely supervised associate doctor who has the opportunity to practice and refine their clinical skills, while learning to manage all aspects of a private practice.
The Institution-wide learning goals define the common ground that unites the programs within the university. They are purposefully broad so that the various colleges and schools can continue to develop their unique identities through varying ways in which the goals are met.
Course Objectives
The extern is able to negotiate a learning plan that allows a focus on the specific needs and interests that will best prepare the individual for graduation, licensure, and practice. There are no set learning objectives or requirements for this term (beyond what is stated under Requirements), since many students will be in placements in states/provinces that restrict the scope of practice for students. However, it is expected that the extern will have as broad and well-rounded an educational experience as possible, and that the extern will continue to working towards mastering the clinical competencies established throughout their clinical education. By the end of the 10th term, the extern should be able to demonstrate competency in each area listed below:
