The student will develop his/her own unique theory of helping by looking at different styles of doctor-patient relationships, issues of professional boundaries, and attributes of an effective helping relationship. Development of skill, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for influencing patient recovery and maintaining the mental health of the patient and chiropractic clinician is discussed.

    Graduates will demonstrate competence of appropriate depth and scope for one's discipline.

  1. be familiar with various types of psychopathology.
  2. understand the importance of the doctor-patients relationship.
  3. develop his/her own theory of helping, personal chiropractic philosophy, and the style of doctor-patient relationship that he/she will use.
  4. follow a professional assessment format which will help him/her to correctly refer patients with mental health and substance abuse problems.

  1. There will be a Midterm Examination on the first half of the course, and a Final Examination that will cover the second half of the course.
  2. Each of the tests will consist of 25 multiple choice questions.

    Midterm Examination = 100 points
    Final Examination = 100 points
    Theory of Helping Paper = 100 points
    Total Points = 300

This schedule of lecture and lab topics and quizzes and exams may be changed during the course of the trimester as circumstances require.
