Michael Egan, LAc, DiplOm, MOm, is a licensed acupuncturist at the Woodwinds Natural Care Center. He is currently completing an acupuncture fellowship at Woodwinds Hospital and maintains a private clinical practice in Minneapolis, Minn.
In 2008 Egan earned his master’s degree in acupuncture and Oriental medicine from the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM) at Northwestern Health Sciences University (Bloomington, Minn.). His internship experience includes the Edith Davis Teaching Clinic, an acupuncture and Oriental medicine teaching clinic at Northwestern; Woodwinds Health Campus, a non-profit collaborative between HealthEast Care System and Children’s Hospital and Clinics; and the Courage Center, a Minnesota-based rehabilitation center for children and adults with disabilities. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1993 from St. Cloud State University (St. Cloud, Minn.)
After graduating Summa Cum Laude from MCAOM, Egan pursued a unique opportunity to study abroad at the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Tianjin, China). Egan described the exchange program’s intensive two-week training as an opportunity to be a part of a totally integrated health care system. “I was also afforded the chance to study at the same University from which many of Northwestern’s acupuncture and Oriental medicine professors earned their Traditional Chinese Medicine doctorate,” adds Egan. While at Tianjin University, Egan spent a majority of his time studying post-stroke recovery. “I have a special interest in treating patients who are recovering from a stroke,” notes Egan.
Egan’s other professional interests include treating people who function at a high level, such as athletes. “I’ve been an athlete and practiced martial arts for more than 20 years. As an athlete, I understand the importance of managing pain naturally,” says Egan. It was when he suffered from tennis elbow, a pain on the outside of the arm near the elbow, that he found acupuncture provided him with a natural, complementary alternative treatment for his own pain. “I believe in natural health care and sought acupuncture treatment after traditional Western medicine did not work. I soon discovered that natural health care provided me with a beneficial treatment that suited my lifestyle.”
Egan’s mission as a natural health care provider is simple – to support and promote natural healing and well being through acupuncture and Oriental medicine treatment in a compassionate and empowering environment. |
