Clinical Nutrition Program – Certificates
Our Graduate Certificates in Applied Clinical Nutrition are designed to provide evidence-based applied clinical nutrition information to current and future healthcare providers and wellness professionals to incorporate within their scope of practice.
Graduate Certificates in Applied Clinical Nutrition
Our unique program offers two specialty-area, graduate-level certificates. Complete one or both certificates – or take individual courses that interest you.
After completing both certificates, you can apply the credits toward our Master of Health Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition. The master’s degree requires only 3 additional courses.
Certificate in Applied Clinical Nutrition: Nutrition Intervention in Health and Disease
Develop expert knowledge in the management of various disease states including hypertension, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Certificate in Applied Clinical Nutrition: Health, Wellness, Human Performance
Become a skilled professional in the areas of maintaining and improving health and wellness, including sports nutrition.
Certificate program details:
- Part-time enrollment
- A combination of online and on-campus graduate-level courses
- Each certificate is comprised of 7 courses (16 credits)
- Core courses: 4 courses (10 credits) are common to both certificates
- Emphasis area: 3 courses (6 credits) are specialty-area courses unique to each certificate
- Completion of both certificates is a total of 10 courses (22 credits)
- Course credit can be applied toward our Master of Health Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition (30 credits)
Master of Health Science (MHS) in Applied Clinical Nutrition
The 22 academic credits you earn upon completion of both certificates may be applied toward our 30-credit Master of Health Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition.
Master’s program details:
- Complete both certificates for a total of 10 courses (22 credits)
- Complete 3 additional courses (8 credits) to earn the MHS degree (30 credits)
- Review admission requirements
- New students admitted in September and January
Note: Bachelor of Science students
Undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology at Northwestern who complete 10 credits of the Applied Clinical Nutrition graduate-level courses will receive a “Nutrition Area of Emphasis.”
Neither of the Graduate Certificates in Applied Clinical Nutrition nor the Master of Health Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition awards licensure or certification as a dietitian and/or nutritionist. Each state varies as to the academic and professional requirements necessary for that type of licensure or certification. In addition, these academic programs do not provide any supervised practice hours to meet the requirement for a dietetic internship or other licensure or certification.
