Current Research Interests

Mechanism(s) of apoptosis in cancer cells:
  • Induction of apoptosis in cancer cells, with special emphasis on protein kinase CK2 signaling
  • Crosstalk between mitochondria, caspases and CK2
  • Targeting kinase signal in cancer cells
  • Investigation of novel bio-active molecules or potential candidates with anti-tumor activity
Intra-cellular redox status and free radical damage:

To investigate the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in tumor cell death. To elucidate free radical damage and mechanism(s) of ROS producing drugs such as resveratrol, EGCG and other related phenolic compounds.

The “learning process” includes the attainment of knowledge as well as the acquisition of skills. The “teaching process” is the method for promoting learning. One who masters this art is a teacher.

I have taught a variety of health and life science subjects including physiology, nutrition, biology, pharmacology, pathology and dermatology. With a degree in medicine and a PhD, I have more than 12 years of teaching experience in Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. Despite being an avid basic scientist, I value teaching and enjoy interacting with my students and peers at Northwestern.

To quote a line from the movie Spiderman, “With great powers comes great responsibility.” I feel that teachers hold great power and I take that responsibility quite seriously.
