Stephen Fridinger, DC, DACBR

Dr. Fridinger is a board-certified chiropractic radiologist with the Center for Diagnostic Imaging. He provides professional physician services at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI) centers in Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and South Dakota.

Dr. Fridinger earned his undergraduate degree at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota, and his doctor of chiropractic and radiology residency at Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU).

Identifying Painful Lumbar Discs – A Potential Glimpse Into the Future (1 X-ray hour)

Treating the source of pain is always the goal in our profession, but in the lumbar spine it’s difficult to know which discs, if any, are producing pain. Explore the background on the relationship between lumbar disc degeneration and pain. Imaging findings of disc degeneration, utilizing both plain film and advanced imaging, will be reviewed and a review of the different types of Modic change seen on MRI and its clinical significance.

Finally, the challenge of how to best specifically identify painful discs in the lumbar spine will be discussed, both the current methods and a promising future solution.
