Spring SaldanaSpring Saldana, BCTMB, CNMT, CMLDT has been both a massage therapist and a certified neuromuscular therapist for 16 years, a Reiki Master for 7 years, a massage therapy educator for 12 years, and a massage therapy program chair for 6.5 years. She travels around the country teaching continuing education for massage professionals. She is the Massage Therapy Program Chair and a faculty member at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota. Massage education has been an important part of her life, and she believes in its ability to spark a person’s innate healing.

Keynote: Massage Therapy and Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)
Trigger point therapy can be utilized to treat conditions such as temporomandibular joint disorder. This course defines and identifies trigger point pathophysiology and their ability to cause pain and autonomic phenomena. Muscle anatomy of the head and face are reviewed along with the associated referral pain and symptoms.

Workshop #1: Trigger Point Therapy for TMJD, External Application
Discuss the importance of proper body mechanics and its role in providing a smoother and more effective treatment session. Observe hands-on demonstrations for external TMJD treatment. Demonstrate basic myofascial techniques for softening the fascial tissue. Demonstrate clear communication about pressure intensity to maintain a safe and therapeutic treatment environment. Perform trigger point therapy treatment protocols on the associated muscles of head, face and jaw.

Workshop #2: Trigger Point Therapy for TMJD, Intraoral Application
Discuss the importance of proper body mechanics and its role in providing a smoother and more effective treatment session. Perform self-intraoral treatment and observe hands-on demonstration for intraoral TMJD treatment. Demonstrate clear communication about pressure intensity to maintain a safe and therapeutic treatment environment. Perform trigger point therapy treatment protocols on the associated muscles of mastication.
