Summary and plan information
Northwestern believes that life insurance is an important part of an employee's financial security and therefore, provides life insurance on all eligible employees. This life insurance also includes Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) as an additional amount of coverage that is paid if the death is due to an accident or if an employee sustains a serious accidental bodily injury.
The amount of life insurance available increases after one (1) year of employment in a benefit eligible position and also includes an accelerated death benefit. In addition, optional and dependent life insurance may be available for eligible employees to purchase through other supplemental plans.
For all life insurance plans, the participant must select a beneficiary. A beneficiary may be changed at any time by completing a beneficiary change form which may be obtained by contacting Human Resources.
Regular full time and regular part time employees become eligible to participate in the plan on the first of the month following one (1) month of employment in a benefit eligible position and should contact Human Resources for more detailed information.
More information on the life insurance offered by Northwestern are found in the Summary Plan Descriptions for your life insurance plan.
