The health and get-in-shape goals of adults are the focus of a new series of Fitness Over 40 classes offered by Northwestern’s Sweere Clinic for Clinical Biomechanics and Applied Ergonomics.
The fitness needs and opportunities of adults over 40 are the focus of a new series of classes offered at Northwestern Health Sciences University.
Registration is open for Fitness Over 40, a six-week program of small-size classes designed specifically for men and women 40 and older by Northwestern’s Sweere Clinic for Clinical Biomechanics and Applied Ergonomics.
“Staying fit requires a different focus at all ages,” said Dr. Greg DeNunzio, Clinical Coordinator of the Sweere Clinic. “We’ve developed a special program, offered in small classes of no more than eight, to work with men and women 40 and older on the needs they have to stay in shape, feel better and enhance their performance.”
DeNunzio is a chiropractor and fitness expert who designed and will lead the classes at the Sweere Clinic, on Northwestern’s campus at 2501 W. 84th St. in Bloomington.
“With small classes, we can create tailored programs for people of all fitness levels,” DeNunzio said. “Even if you’re working out regularly, Fitness Over 40 can help you take your health and performance to a new level.”
The classes will focus on improving strength, balance, posture and movement while decreasing neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain and stiffness. Specific needs of class participants also will be addressed.
Participant Renate Behrendt signed up for the first offering of Fitness Over 40 clases earlier this year and found value as well as a welcoming environment.
"It's a wonderful program, and you won’t find its equal at any other fitness center," she said. "Dr. Greg has designed an ideal program to counteract the toll life takes on my posture, joints and overall fitness. The classes are fun and challenging with plenty of variety and motivation. Even though I came in out of shape, I’ve always felt safe and encouraged."
DeNunzio said, "One of our goals at the Sweere Clinic is to help people in our community achieve health and fitness levels that they desire—and that they can achieve better and faster with guidance. We have expertise and facilities to do this. We’re looking forward to making Fitness Over 40 a regular offering at Northwestern.”
Classes will meet twice a week for six weeks and are forming now. The cost is $195. For more information or to register, please contact DeNunzio at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 952-888-4777, ext. 250. More information also is available at sweereclinic.com/programs.
