Award Winners Honored at NWHSU’s 2017 Autumn Reception

At the 2017 Autumn Reception held on campus Friday, October 13, select members of the Northwestern Health Sciences University community received awards for their accomplishments and contributions.

Northwestern Health Sciences University hosted the 2017 Autumn Reception event on our campus Friday, October 13. As part of the annual fundraising reception, we honored select members of the Northwestern Health Sciences University community for their accomplishments and contributions. President Chris Cassirer selected the following award winners for their extraordinary work in the community.


‌‌Joanie Holst

Associate Professor, School of Massage Therapy

2017 Distinguished Faculty Award

Joanie Holst has shared her passion for therapeutic massage with patients and students alike for over 20 years. As an associate professor with Northwestern’s School of Massage Therapy, Joanie pursues greater understanding of soft tissue structures through her continuing research in post-injury and post-surgical scar work. Her pioneering work designing and launching Northwestern’s School of Massage Therapy has enriched our students’ educational experience immeasurably.

 

 

‌Ken Swenson

Vice President, Massage Therapy Alumni Association Board of Directors

2017 Distinguished Service Award

As a massage therapist in Osage, Iowa, Ken Swenson has become an ambassador for complementary health care. Through his participation in pilot programs with a local hospital, Ken helped expand the existing body of research in reducing pain and anxiety through alternative, non-pharmacological methods. As Vice President of the Massage Therapy Alumni Association, Ken provides essential counsel to Northwestern’s senior leadership and advocates for graduates of the School of Massage Therapy.

 

Dr. Joel Fugleberg

Alumni, College of Chiropractic

2017 Award for Excellence in Chiropractic

Since his graduation from Northwestern’s College of Chiropractic in 2006, Joel Fugleberg has built a successful practice in Mendota Heights. Joel was drawn to chiropractic care following a wrestling injury as an undergraduate; today, he combines his love for sports and chiropractic with patients from the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves, and Vixens. With his enthusiasm for fitness and natural wellness, Joel empowers his patients to make healthy changes for a better lifestyle.

 

Stephanie Hylla

President, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alumni Association Board of Directors

2017 Distinguished Service Award

Stephanie Hylla came to acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine when, during pregnancy, she experienced the efficacy of acupuncture in relieving excruciating pain. Since her graduation from Northwestern’s School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2010, she has made effective pain relief through complementary therapies and education of the public her mission. Stephanie has also extended her work into the community through charitable treatment at the Courage Center, The Aliveness Center and the Salvation Army Harbor Lights.
