2018 Chiropractic Homecoming Recap

From February 8-10, Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) hosted over 900 chiropractors and around 70 exhibitors on campus to help celebrate our 2018 Chiropractic Homecoming and Winter Gathering!

From February 8-10, Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) hosted over 900 chiropractors and around 70 exhibitors on campus to help celebrate our 2018 Chiropractic Homecoming and Winter Gathering! Attendees participated in discussions on current health issues, including chiropractic's role in helping the U.S. overcome the opioid addiction crisis and how employers and employees can save money and improve health outcomes by establishing on-site workplace clinics.

The NWHSU campus was buzzing with alumni and others who listened to exciting speakers on the theme of The Changing Landscape of the Chiropractic Profession. Keynote speaker Daniel Lord, DC kicked off the event with "The Rise of Chiropractic Care in Worksite Health Centers." Barbara Coward, MBA, Ryan Pena, and Christian Jovanovic, BS, M.om presented a TEDTalk style session on “Communicating about Health Topics Using Digital and Social Media" that was live streamed to Facebook. Breakout sessions included:

  • “Chiropractic: A Key to America’s Opioid Exit Strategy”;

  • “New Paradigms in Chronic Care and Pain: A Whole Food Nutrition Role”;

  • “Functional Fitness: A New Paradigm for Chiropractic”;

  • “Obesity: A Primary Care Approach”; and

  • Social media strategy sessions for engaging with patients online.

Day two opened with a Women's Networking Breakfast with NWHSU’s Executive Vice President and Provost, Dr. Deb Bushway, and “Functional Anatomy, Evaluation & Rehabilitation of the Shoulder” led by Kim Swineheart, DC and Andrew Klein, DC, MS, DACBSP. Other sessions included:

  • "Impacting Care with Imaging: Case Study Approach";

  • "Diagnostic Imaging Case Studies and Clinical Correlations";

  • “At Issues: Chiropractic Practice Models & the Effects on Patient Care”; and

  • “Ethics & Social Media.”

The day ended with the annual Homecoming Banquet for alumni, honoring Alumnus of the Year 2018, Dr. Arlen Lieberman, and Distinguished Humanitarian Awardee Dr. Christopher Jo.

The final day of the conference featured sessions on:

  • “MACRA, MIPS and Chiropractic: Medicare’s New Quality Payment System”;

  • "The New Medicare Chiropractic Documentation Collaborative Model";

  • "Acupuncture for Chronic Conditions"; and

  • “Animal Chiropractic: From How To…To Case Reviews.”
