NWHSU Grad Elected Chair of the ASA Ahead of Conference in Minneapolis
Paul Magee, LAc ’06 was elected Chair of the American Society of Acupuncturists (ASA). The ASA is a national organization representing licensed acupuncturists and their state associations across the U.S.
“The reason I wanted to be on the board of the ASA,” Magee explains, “is that I see our profession at a turning point right now, and I want to do my part to ensure we can all thrive.”
A licensed acupuncturist for 18 years, Magee has worked at the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing at Allina Health since 2015. He served as Lead Acupuncturist from 2018 to 2023. He also helped found the Society for Hospital and Healthcare System Based Acupuncturists (SOHHA), where he continues to serve on the board.
As ASA Chair, Magee’s priorities include strengthening collaboration among state associations and growing membership. “Our associations keep their eye on the big picture—protecting our profession’s future and helping us speak with one voice,” he says.
ASA 2026 Annual Conference in Minneapolis
In April, the ASA will host its annual conference in Minneapolis. The theme is SPRING: Supporting our Practitioners through Research, Integration, Networking & Growth.
“The Twin Cities are one of the more successful areas in the country for acupuncture, and acupuncturists are employed by most of the local healthcare systems. Minnesota has fairly robust insurance coverage for acupuncture, which is something many states are still struggling with,” said Magee.
“We have a very strong foundation already built for our profession. But being Midwesterners, we tend to stay pretty quiet about our own accomplishments. I hope to bring us a little more national attention.”
