Master of Health Science in Functional & Integrative Nutrition Curriculum
An Online Master’s Degree Built Around Functional, Root-Cause Nutrition Care
NWHSU’s Master of Health Science (MHS) in Functional and Integrative Nutrition is a 36-credit, 100% online master’s program designed for students and healthcare professionals who want to practice nutrition through a personalized, whole-person lens. The program covers foundational and advanced topics including nutritional biochemistry, nutrigenomics, functional nutrition systems, evidence-based practice, and behavioral health — with electives you tailor to your clinical interests.
Courses are 100% online with three start dates per year and full- or part-time options, making the MHS accessible for working clinicians and career-changers alike. The program is also designed to meet the academic requirements for the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) exam and the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBC-HWC) credential, two of the most recognized credentials in the field.
Don’t Stop at Your Master’s — Earn Your Doctorate Too
NWHSU now offers a Doctor of Clinical Nutrition (DCN) in Functional and Integrative Nutrition — and if you’re starting from the MHS, you’re already on the path. At NWHSU, you can earn both degrees at a full-time pace in as little as two years, entirely online. The DCN is one of the few functional nutrition doctoral programs in the country, and compared to similar programs, it’s more affordable and faster to complete.
Already have your master’s? You can enter the DCN directly as a standalone 45-credit program and finish in just over one year.
