Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance is a therapeutic adaptation of traditional Tai Ji Quan, developed by Dr. Fuzhong Li at the Oregon Research Institute. It transforms martial arts movements into exercises that enhance postural stability, mindful control of body positioning, functional walking, movement symmetry, coordination, and lower-extremity strength. The program is recognized by the CDC, Administration on Aging, and National Council on Aging as a top-tier evidence-based falls prevention program.Tai Ji Quan has been proven to enhance the quality of life by improving balance and gait, sharpen mental capacities, and reduce the risk of falls. Our course leader, Dana Brumitt, offers adaptive exercises for varying abilities and has extensive experience working with individuals affected by a broad range of health conditions and movement disorders. She is adept at identifying modifications needed to allow for full participation in the course to enhance independence, to improve global cognitive function, and to create community as participants get stronger. There is a 58% reduction in falls for community dwelling adults above the age of 70 that practice Tai Ji Quan.
