About Edith Davis
Edith Davis BA, LAc, DiplAc (1921-2008), was a pioneering leader for integrating acupuncture and Oriental medicine into today’s health care system. Her legacy at Northwestern lives on in the herbal dispensary that bears her name – the Edith Davis Herbal Dispensary.
Davis spent decades promoting her passion for acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Beginning in 1982, she was directly involved with acupuncture policy development at state and national levels, as well as the development of national certification standards.
She was a founding member and the first president of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota. That same association later awarded her with its Acupuncturist of the Year Award.
In 1990, Edith Davis started the Minnesota Institute of Acupuncture and Herbal Studies. By 1999, the institute merged with Northwestern Health Sciences University to later become the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
