Peggy Miller has worked in health care for many years, but she was not always on the natural health care side of things. After interns from Northwestern’s College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine visited Peggy’s Women’s Health Clinic, she had a change of heart regarding her occupation. “After talking with people from Northwestern, I knew I wanted to be on their side of the table.”
As a student at Northwestern, Peggy enjoyed the herbal program and herbal dispensary the most. “Instructors were amazing and shared astonishing knowledge. The herbal dispensary radiates health and knowledge.”
Peggy’s student clinical experiences were diverse and imparted a lot of practical knowledge. She advises students to take these opportunities seriously. “Students must remember that when you go to school, you are becoming the healer that you will eventually be. You must take your studies seriously and learn as much as you can in the short time you are in school.”
As a 2002 graduate, Peggy is now working in various hospital settings, including the Penny George Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and the oncology department at Unity Hospital, and maintains her own small practice.
Peggy finds that her herbal medicine education from Northwestern allows her patients to be more involved in their own care. “They are enabled to participate in their own treatment because acupuncture and Oriental medicine treats the whole person, not just the disease.”
