Dignity and Respect Campaign Promotes Inclusive Environment at Northwestern
Kate Martin | March 17, 2012
The Dignity and Respect Campaign is a three-year initiative to promote and encourage acceptance and inclusion on campus.
A team of students, staff and faculty are working to make sure that the University offers a welcoming campus environment. Adopted by the Commission for Diversity and Inclusion at Northwestern, the Dignity and Respect Campaign is a three-year initiative to promote and encourage acceptance and tolerance on campus. Past Commission efforts have often focused on cultural diversity, but this campaign broadens the emphasis to include all types of diversity.
The University Strategic Plan includes the following statement on diversity: “The community of Northwestern acknowledges the dignity of all human beings and resolves to treat all people with respect and equality. We will accept nothing less. We recognize the differences among us such as culture, race, ethnicity, age, ideology, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, religion and spirituality.”
More information on the Dignity & Respect campaign is available from the Office of Student Affairs and from Dr. Alejandra Estrin Dashe, Chair of the Commission for Diversity and Inclusion.
