The Compact for Safe Cosmetics

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a national coalition with the ultimate goal being to protect the health of consumers and workers by requiring that the health and beauty industry meet the guidelines set by the European Union Directive 76/768/EEC. This guideline, a law for European-based cosmetic manufacturers, requires that companies create products that are free of chemicals known or strongly suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects. To join the pledge, companies must implement substitution plans that replace hazardous materials with safer alternatives within three years. The campaign plans to provide companies with information on cost-effective, safer, alternative ingredients and with toxicity data on certain chemicals used in their products. The following are companies who have signed the pledge and are implementing safer ingredients in their products:
