Medical Laboratory Science Program Admission Requirements

Medical laboratory science admission requirements include:

  • A.S. or A.A.S. degree from Accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher
  • Personal essay consisting of two parts noted below
  • Resume
  • Proof of ASCP or AMT MLT/CLT certification
  • Bachelor of Science Degree Completion Evaluation
  • Meeting with the Program Chair
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Meet all additional qualifications

For your personal essay, please write a two-page summary divided into two parts:

  • Part 1, tell us about:
    • Your Background
    • Your personal goals
    • Reason for choosing the Medical Laboratory Science BS Completion program
    • Reason for choosing Northwestern Health Sciences University
  • Part 2: Describe a major personal accomplishment and your reason for this selection.

Prerequisites

  • Admission to this program requires completion of an accredited A.S. or A.A.S. program in Medical Laboratory Technology. The program curriculum includes foundation courses in organic chemistry, genetics, and biochemistry to prepare you for success in the more advanced core program courses. All MLS applicants are required to pass the MLT certification exam prior to acceptance to the program. Passing this exam demonstrates that a student has completed the academic and credentialing requirements necessary to practice in this field.
