New HPC Resident Ready to Say “Yes” to Opportunities

This fall, the Human Performance Center welcomes a new sports resident: Erica Milburn, DC. After graduating from Parker University, Dr. Milburn spent a year in practice before applying for the residency. “I learned a a ton in that year and saw lots of wonderful patients!” she shared. “But I knew I wanted and needed more expertise in the area of sports chiropractic in order to get where I want to be.”

Gaining Experience and Pursing Certifications

A mentor recommended she look into the residency, “And as soon as I learned what it was I knew I had to apply,” she shared. During the two-year residency, she hopes to finish her Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and Titleist Performance Institute Certifications, gain confidence working sidelines, and create a lecture series on topics specific to female athletes.

“I hope to learn how I can help athletes from day 1 of an injury or setback, to return to play and beyond,” she shared. With a background in strength and conditioning, she’s well positioned to succeed in the role, but she noted that she doesn’t have as much experience working sidelines, and is excited to get out of her comfort zone.

“I plan on saying “Yes” to every opportunity to challenge myself and learn and grow as a clinician that I possibly can while I’m here! I’m grateful to be here and learn from Dr. Klein, Dr. Mac and the other residents.”

Preparing for a Successful Sports Chiropractic Career

Like the residents before her, Dr. Milburn plans to use this experience to launch a successful career in sports chiropractic. Specifically, she hopes to open a boutique practice focused on performance and recovery for female athletes. She also hopes to travel with teams and athletes to provide care.

NWHSU, with its chiropractic degree with sports and rehabilitation emphasis and the sports chiropractic residency, is a leader in educating leaders in sports chiropractic. Dr. Milburn joins current resident Dr. Cree Foster, and Dr. Shiloh Heesch, former sports resident who accepted a new position as Foot Levelers Resident
