Northwestern Health Sciences University Launches the Institute for Integrative Care

The new Institute breaks down siloes in healthcare by creating a coordinated, collaborative approach for a sustainable future

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – October 25, 2022 – Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU), the evidence-based integrative health sciences university in Bloomington, Minnesota, announced the launch of its Institute for Integrative Care. The Institute supports the university’s integrative care initiatives, reimagining solutions and education to transform healthcare.

Designed to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery, the Institute for Integrative Care works collaboratively toward a coordinated, whole person approach to care. The Institute rethinks the current model with focus on healthcare transformation, interprofessional education and community engagement. Resources developed within the Institute will support leaders across the care delivery system in enacting integrative care models. In response to the siloes of the traditional healthcare system, the Institute will be a creative space for cross-sector collaboration and problem-solving.

“Beginning as a Chiropractic College more than 80 years ago, we continue to work toward a vision of treating the whole person with collaborative and holistic approaches to care. The launch of the Institute for Integrative Care establishes our past, present and future commitments to breaking down siloes and prioritizing the right care at the right time,” said Deborah Bushway, Ph.D., President and CEO at NWHSU. “With a coordinated, collaborative approach to whole person health, we can make high-quality care accessible and sustainable.”

Through the Institute, NWHSU works collaboratively with organizations and communities to build a system in which all people benefit from integrative care. It is focused on the following domains:

  • Healthcare Transformation: Providing practical tools to help organizations move towards integrative care models.
  • Interprofessional Education: Ensuring all NWHSU students gain a strong understanding of integrative care and its possibilities and innovating to reach a wider audience with its educational
  • Community Engagement: Building collaborative relationships with diverse communities and organizations to bring well-being and integrative care into their spaces and offerings.
