University’s research and policy director will help national, global chiropractic groups.

Northwestern Health Sciences University announced that Michele Maiers, executive director of research and policy, has received two appointments to high-profile positions within national and international organizations serving the chiropractic profession.

Maiers has been named to the Board of Governors of the American Chiropractic Association, the largest chiropractic organization in the United States. The ACA advances evidence-based, patient-centered care as well as education about care provided by chiropractors, individually and through integrated treatment models.

As one of six members of the ACA’s Board of Governors, Maiers will help shape the organization’s business, policy, legislative and corporate activities. She has worked for many years as delegate for Minnesota ACA members and as the national adviser to the Student ACA.

Maiers also has been named to the Executive Council of the World Federation of Chiropractic, a global non-profit, non-government organization that supports, promotes and unites chiropractors worldwide. The federation represents chiropractors in 88 countries and has an official relationship with the World Health Organization. As one of four members of the Executive Council, Maiers will help manage the strategic activity of the federation.

“I am honored to take leadership roles in both of these important organizations,” Maiers said. “Chiropractic can not only improve the health of individuals but also positively contributes to communities by engaging in public health and policy issues. Both the ACA and the WFC provide support and expertise that enhance chiropractors’ ability to do both. I am proud also to represent Northwestern, where we’re not only educating great chiropractors but also the next generation of health-care leaders.”

Northwestern President Chris Cassirer said: “Michele is a leader on our campus and in the chiropractic profession. These two appointments recognize the gifts that she shares regularly with our students and that she now can share with chiropractors across the country and around the world.”

Maiers holds a doctor of chiropractic degree from Northwestern, a master of public health degree from the University of Minnesota and a doctor of philosophy degree in clinical research and biomechanics from the University of Southern Denmark.
