The Radiologic Technology Degree Program at NWHSU brings together the art and science of radiography (or medical imaging) to help doctors and clinicians treat patients. With the medical needs of aging Americans driving growth in health care needs, individuals who operate x-ray machines and produce diagnostic medical images are in strong demand. NWHSU’s Radiologic Technician students learn to use radiologic equipment, such as X-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs, to provide images of tissues, organs, bones, and vessels in the body.

Train to Perform Medical Imaging Examinations and Diagnostics

The radiologic technology program offers comprehensive, rigorous training in all aspects of radiology. This gives you the skills needed for an entry-level radiologic technology job. Learn to position patients, protecting them from overexposure to harmful radiation, while making them as comfortable as possible.

Gain Experience through Onsite Radiology Clinical Services

Learn in a variety of clinical sites both locally and throughout the country. Learn specialty procedures while working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Build your skills working with a variety of patients and equipment under supervision in a professional health care setting.

Learn to use X-Ray Technology

Radiologic Technology Program Overview & Curriculum

Coursework for health care professionals include culture and health, medical terminology, radiologic procedures, principles of exposure, fundamentals of image analysis, radiation protection, communication skills for health professionals, and more.

Radiology Tech Program Length

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology consists of four trimesters of classroom work, followed by two trimesters of clinical experience
The A.A.S. degree is typically completed in 24 months

Radiologic Technology Degree Requirements

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Radiologic Technology is granted to those candidates who have:

Completed the required curriculum
Demonstrated competency in clinic and completed radiologic technologist internship and field experience requirements
Earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better
Fulfilled all financial obligations to the university

Clinical Experience Details

The radiologic technology clinical internship is 1,110 hours—approximately seven months—which takes place in trimesters 5 and 6
It is important for all students to prepare for the possibility of an out-of-metro or even out-of-state placement

According to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for Licensed Radiologic Technologists is projected to grow faster than average by 9% between 2018-2028 (BLS).

Learn Radiologic Technology and Medical Imaging in Real-World Clinical Settings

Our radiology tech program ensures graduates have extensive clinical experience. This includes a variety of clinical training sites in medical facilities, hospital settings, imaging settings, diagnostic laboratories and physician’s offices.

Students may be placed in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area or another location within the United States, with the goal of providing the best possible educational experience. Clinical rotations are approximately seven months in length, or approximately 1,110 hours.

National Radiologic Technologists Registration & Licensing

In a radiography associate’s degree program, students learn to interact with patients, interpret physician orders, apply principles of radiation safety and operate radiography equipment. Programs that have earned approval from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) meet professional standards.

At the completion of an accredited radiologic technology program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the national ARRT registry exam. Once registered, graduates may seek to obtain licensure that may be required to work in specific states. Radiography graduates also have the ability to obtain further registrations in other disciplines, such as Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (with additional training and coursework).
